Play It Again, Sam

I never even learned to play Chopsticks, but I am doing OK.

Today I saw this on the news.

Alma Deutscher, the new Mozart.

And have you seen Jonathan?

Remarkable yes, but feast your eyes on Nora.

Makes you feel a little inadequate, doesn't it?

    1. If she does, what does she take for payment? I have a few catnip bags.

  2. When, as a teenager, I was learning to play the classical guitar there was a young girl in the studio who was brilliant. I thought I might 'accidentally' shut my hand in a door so that I could say "I would have played like that if my hand was OK"! Sometimes God lays his finger on the brow of certain people and they are born gifted!

  3. Hello Arleen:
Where, we wonder, did we go wrong? And when we had cats, we obviously neglected to bring out their skills - just their claws!

    1. Little did we know that we had a responsibility to culture our cats.

  4. Nora is adorable. And is probably more musical than I am. She looks the part doesn't she?

  5. Nora looks like she really enjoys the sounds she is making. If only we all could be as content with our own abilities.

  6. I watched Alma explaining her music. Such a confident little girl.

  7. Anyone can see that cat's playing Debussy and Chopin, and they're trying to turn it into Beethoven!

    Wonderful kids. Thanks, Arleen.

  8. Dear Arleen, Chopsticks is about the only thing I can play. I can still play the scales on the flute however.

    1. Still working on Chopsticks. No matter my lack of talent though, I still love to sing, even if it is off key.

  9. Ah yes, a couple of talented youngsters and a piano cat. Of course, just between you and me, I feel inadequate having Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, recently upgraded to superstar status, have so many adoring fans. Oh well, I used to play the recorder in elementary school. Sort of! :)

  10. When I first retired I thought about learning to play the piano and now, three years later, I haven't gotten to it yet!

  13. Dear Arleen, your posting today delights me! Nora is an exceptional cat. Well, let me think about that. Perhaps all cats--at least the ones I've lived with--are exceptional. But some like Nora are a little more forthcoming with their talent. They long to connect with us. And she's found a way. Maggie, Ellie, and Matthew, with whom I now live, find ways to entertain me also, but I know that at night, as I sleep, they have a secret life that they haven't shared with me. Ah, if only they'd paw about it! Peace.

  14. I may not be able to perform Mozart, or lead an orchestra, but I can play my five-stringed banjo. (Major accomplishment for a Bear.)

But, when was the last time you saw a piano sitting with folks around a campfire? Or an orchestra playing "Kum ba yah" in a college quad, with a bunch of students hangin' out and singin'?

So, no, I don't feel one bit inadequate.

Oh, and btw, I can play chopsticks, and a hymn or two, on the piano. FWIW.
