Dog Days

The Magnolias are in bloom (achoo), and I am doing OK

The arrival of spring with its sunshine and longer days brings with it a renewed energy.  The snowy days are gone and we notice that nature has put the bounce back into our step.  The song birds are chirping, the squirrels are scampering around the trees, and the old groundhog has come out of his hole to check out my gardens for potential food supplies. I also just saw my first bumble bee going from flower to flower on my Azalea bush.  It is time for busy bees to do their thing.

Yes, the pleasant weather is back and all creatures great and small have come out to play.  Well most have, but maybe not my son's four year old lab, Champ.  He is not exactly a bundle of energy.

His companion, Brandy, could be a little more enthusiastic also.

Get those dogs some doggie Red Bull or at least, some Vitamin Water.

  1. That's one mellow dog and I think you are right, they do need some more pep in their step, both of them.

  2. Looks like winter has allowed a few pounds to creep onto the dogs. Their enthusiasm is underwhelming.

  5. Arleen, So good to see you post. Maybe the pups are suffering from all the pollen, ha! ha! I am glad to hear you are feeling better. Bonnie

    1. Oh, that is a good one. I have to admit it that I have used that excuse a few times myself.

Thanks Bonnie for your good thoughts.

  7. May I suggest a slight diet! If my Lab' was that lethargic, I'd begin to worry.

    1. Champ is usually much peppier and enjoys running around the woods. He also is not overweight. He is an English Lab and they have a bulkier build. He is a love and a great companion for the family. This was just a lazy day for him and who doesn't have those.

  8. Champ strikes me a serious dog. "Get the ball, fetch" might simply not agree with his temperament. Try "Champ, collect art!" or "review the film". See what happens.

    1. Not everyone is into athletics. You might be right; he might need something more intellectual to stimulate him.

  9. Champ is a real cutie, and maybe he just wants to hear "Please" once in awhile!

    1. Didn't think of that, Julie. I will speak to my son about his manners.

  10. He got the ball didn't he? I didn't hear 'On the double, Champ' and neither did he.
Some people are soooo demanding. He had an itch. I don't run (with an itch or without it) and obviously neither does he. Without better incentives anyway.

    1. Absolutely, EC. After all, when you got an itch, you got to scratch.

  13. What a wonderfully relaxed dog Champ is! Were he a bit larger, he might pass for a Black Bear.

Glad that spring has sprung in your neighbourhood. It's trying to do so up here, too, but is having trouble getting temperatures about the freezing point. Very trying, actually.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  14. Yeah, that Lab needs some Red Bull (and maybe a flea collar since he was scratching so much). But at least he was wagging his tail the whole way. He may be slow, but he's happy! :-)

  15. Ha! You're a riot! At least you have the excuse of being up before the sun for your brain being "not fully alert." I sometimes open too many windows, get confused and comment on one person's blog about another's post. :P

  16. Oops, just showed Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, that video. She proceeded to yawn and that was it :) Must be a lack of enthusiasm thing happening in dog land.

Spring, oh yes, we noted a few signs, even here in England.

    Have a lovely weekend.

  17. I have already commented here, but I just wanted to thank you for stopping by so often. I enjoy your comments a lot. And we just missed that big quake, we were in SF the night before, in the Marina of all places, on our way back from Seattle. When we came home and turned on the TV to watch the game, the quake hit up there. Those were terrible times.
