I am a grandma and I am doing excellent.
Today is my grandson's 12th birthday. I have 6 grandchildren, but only one grandson - and he is a very special guy. He is musically talented and plays the trumpet in three different groups, and - may I brag - is first seated. Those of you who have played in school bands know what an honor that is. He is athletic and with his 4'9" body, is a star and major player on his basketball team. Most of all he has the heart of a lion and his kindness towards others and all species in nature makes a grandma proud. I look at him and I see "hope" that the world will be a better place, that there is "thoughtfulness" in his generation and there will be a "better" tomorrow. Yes, I am proud, and I know that I am slightly prejudiced, but when we see a light, when we see a hope, when we are confident that goodness is alive and will continue, we feel better about tomorrow.
Michael loves Lego's. We have been giving him all kinds of these kits for years. He completes a 2000+ piece toy in less than an hour. Great for him, but for the cost of these toys, you would hope it would take him longer. Lately he has been putting together videos using the characters of some of the games he has been given. Now his creations can live for infinity on You Tube. Makes me feel better about the investment.
12 years old, no longer a little boy, oh my, time is going by too quickly.

I see a college scholarships in his future. Either that, or maybe he can get a job with Lego.
Hello Arleen:
ReplyDeleteA very Happy Birthday to your grandson.
How wonderful it is that he fills your heart with pride and hope. That is exactly as it should be. He is clearly making the most of the talents and opportunities that he has, such a pity that one knows of many young people for whom this is not the case.
The two short videos were fun. We particularly like the strong mother with the red hair....could this be based on someone real?!!!
Videos were great....especially the fighting kids...little sneakers.
ReplyDeleteHurrah for grandsons! Yours is mighty special. Hope you have many special years together.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Michael! 12 is a big year. He has plenty of talents, and I'm sure he'll do well. He has you for a Grandma, how can he not?! Love the vids! :D
ReplyDeleteThey do give us hope, you're spot on. I love the videos... that's some dance choreography going on there. Love it. Keep up the good work, Michael, and happy bathday!
ReplyDeleteDear Arleen,
ReplyDeletePlease wish Michael a happy birthday from me and the cats: Ellie, Maggie, and Matthew!
I so appreciated this line from your posting: "when we see a light, when we see a hope, when we are confident that goodness is alive and will continue, we feel better about tomorrow." That is so true. Sometimes I find myself a little down thinking that the future will be dreary and then I read this posting about your grandson and know that all shall be well.
Peace.
PS: I laughed out loud at the two videos! What creativity.
Happy Birthday to your lovely talented grandson. Arleen you have every right to be proud of him. Brilliant videos :0)
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent! What a creative boy! There is a Lego-Land here in San Diego; they hold competitions for Lego-nuts and usually hire the winner.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool. My kids love these type of videos and will give his a viewing.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments and for wishing my grandson a happy birthday. He is a great young man and, as you can see, very talented.
ReplyDeleteArleen
Arleen, Those videos are seriously good! I did play in the band and I know how hard it is to make it to first chair. I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating. Hugs, Bonnie
ReplyDeletesweet!!!! very sweet!
ReplyDeleteThese videos are great!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy 12th birthday to your grandson. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that bird in your header.
Sandie
Thank you very much for the great blog and everyone's comments. I shared this with him and he enjoyed reading everything and had a smile the whole time. He as plenty of plans for his stop motion Lego videos so stay tuned. There are some funny scripts still to produce on the kids fighting theme.
ReplyDeleteWow. Such a talented boy. A happy birthday to him, and congratulations to you.
ReplyDeleteAnd please, what is the glamorous bird in your header?
That is a bluebird. I have two of them in my yard and they are building a nest in one of the bluebird houses that we put up several years ago. They are magnificent, aren't they?
DeleteI LOVE the first one - it's like watching the rehearsal of a famous boyband! He's very talented - well done to him!
ReplyDeleteYou have every right to be proud of your grandson. His videos are reeeeeeally good. And first chair musician. Wow! I hope he had a wonderful birthday. And your bluebird is absolutely bee-yooo-tiful! (Thank you.)
ReplyDeleteArleen-
ReplyDeleteAren't you just a proud Grandma! Your boy is indeed talented and such an interesting young man. Being first seated in his school band is indeed an honor! I love the story about his interest in Lego's- that's fabulous! He is definately going to continue to do great things--- and make you proud!
Love
Vicki
We DO have to draw hope from every ray of light we see and what better hope is there than the future generation. I am not suprised your Grandson displays the qualities he does as he has you for a Grandmother Arleen.
ReplyDeleteEarth Blessings x
Arleen, are you surprised? He shares your genes and he has a "hands on" Dad. He'll probably share your love of wine (ha ha) They do grow up so fast and thank God we are here to enjoy each facit of their development. I see some of my sons in their children and this brings back some good memories and some ??? memories. Thank you for sharing. He is a talented young man with a very bright future.
ReplyDeleteLove
Anne
He's lucky to have such a doting grandma! He sounds a great little guy - well, 12 is not so little really :)
ReplyDeleteAnd those little movies are wonderful! (It's amazing how Lego has expanded, you can get all kinds of kits now for things you wouldn't have dreamed of once )
Aw, that is so cute! How wonderful to have a grandson! Happy Birthday to Michael! Legos are so amazing, but I remember they were expensive. I think we still have a few sets in the garage (and a bunch of other building things we're saving for grandkids!!)
ReplyDeleteHe must be very musical indeed, I know what first chair means! Lots and lots of practice!!
Hi Arleen. I followed you here from Austan's blog. We have a lot in common. I am due to retire in August (but I might not!) and have four grandchildren and Sonny (7) the youngest wants to work for Lego! He loves Legoland which is a theme park outside London (UK) where we live.
ReplyDeleteBeing a Grandparent is the best club in the world and you really have no idea how great it is until you become a member.
By the way I like the watercolour background. Your own work?

LHi Bazza,
DeleteLego certainly has the market for boys and girls alike. It is a great educational toy and one that my children and now my grandchildren love to play. It can get rather expensive though.
The picture in my header is one that I took a week ago in my yard. Bluebirds have come to nest. We have two pair and they are a glorious sight to see.
he would fit right in at my house...right between the 11 yr old and the 13 yr old who are at baseball practice now!!!
