It is warm and wonderful and I am doing OK.
I am not a collector of anything. Yes, I have plenty of junk, but it is all diversified. As I move along in years, I realize that I have way too much and besides trying to pass my treasures on to my children (who have politely said no), I have tried to curb my desire to buy more. However, during the cold months of winter when I am being couped up in the house too much, I find myself on the computer checking out the latest of the must haves for the gardens. Now, most of the time I am sensible and just look, but then the days become greyer and greyer and the snow falls and my resolve softens and, and......I give into the charms of Mr. Amazon and Mr. Burpee.
Now it is time to pay the piper. Mom told me never to trust anyone who had easy answers to everything. She warned me not to push any buttons and a cart half empty is better than one half full. I was weak and so the seeds have been sent, the plants and gardening supplies will follow and the bill for my indiscretions will appear in my mailbox on May 1st.
Bless me Father for I have sinned..., but the devil made me do it. It was not my fault at all, it was Mr. Apple, Mr. Dell, Mr. Microsoft and above all, Mr. Internet. I am just a sucker for the Mr.'s.

You will eventually be surrounded by beautiful flowers in your garden, after paying the piper and doing a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteSometimes sinning can make you happy, that is why it is so much fun.
DeleteLoved this clever post today.....too funny! Can't wait to see your planting frenzy...come spring in your sweet little spot.
ReplyDeletexo
Jo
Neither can I Jo. Things are starting to come together and I am enjoying all my spring plants.
DeleteMr amazon is a seductive little bugger is he not?
ReplyDeleteI would like to break up with him, but it is hard. He keeps sending me little notes in my e-mail trying to bring me back.
DeleteSend those notes directly to the 'junk' file..do not open..do not pass go.....
ReplyDeleteI would like to Delores, and sometimes I do. Other times, I am weak, very weak.
DeleteLOL - I've loving the interent but for opposite reason. I'm in a minimalist phase and selling like crazy. I'm amazed at what I am ready to let go of. Maybe a tad too much as I had to say for gathering in weekend ummm byo cups.
ReplyDeleteI am trying very hard to be a minimilist. Not working, so far though.
DeleteKnow the feeling
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us do, Molly.
DeleteThe Michigan Bulb Company catalog (and others) used to make me salivate for spring (and spend, spend, spend!) in the middle of Maryland's cold gray winters. Thank goodness, I haven't ventured into the online temptations, because I am weak, very very weak. And summers in Georgia are too bloody hot and buggy to invest in a whole lot of plants.
ReplyDeleteLook on the bright side. You're going to have a GORGEOUS garden. (again!)
I know The Michigan Bulb Company very well. Come fall, I will be a customer.
DeleteSo nice to see your name in my comments Susan. I have missed you, but I hope your time off has been productive.
I do this to myself..every month! I have a betting limit, however.
ReplyDeleteWe all must have limits, however, I tend to get forgetful as the month goes by.
DeleteMoney spent on the garden is not deducted from one's true wealth. And yes, you may recirculate stuff on ebay --my wife does. She's going to fix me up a little more and sell me.
ReplyDeleteMoney spent on a garden that brings some beauty into the (my) world, is money well spent.
DeleteYou crack me up Geo. Your sense of humor is so like mine - just a little wicked.
The money Mr.s made it way too easy for you. That's why they've got the money.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm sure you'll have a wonderful garden, and will turn us green — with envy — at the site of your creativity.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Bears Noting
For the past few years, I have been overthinking my gardens and have not been pleased. This year though, I am going to do less with more impact.
DeleteI'm an uninvited visitor, I know. I'm not usually one who pops in uninvited, but I saw that you're also a blogging friend of Elephant's Child...as I am. :)
ReplyDeleteI, like EC, am an Aussie. I hope you don't mind me dropping in on you like this! :)
I'm trying to not purchase any more "stuff", too! And every night as I sort out and file away the day's happenings or non-happenings in my mind, I keep telling myself that tomorrow I'm going to start getting rid of all that I've not used for some time! The night has been long...tomorrow has not yet arrived!
Everybody is invited to my home. Come sit down, and let's chat. Would you like a lemon square? I make the best.
DeleteI have the same nights as you. Tomorrow, tomorrow, I am going to clean out this or that and get rid of all that STUFF. Some days I succeed, and others, well others, they are manana days.
I would come by much more frequently if you could figure out a way to deliver those lemon squares through the Internet....they are one of my favorites!.
ReplyDeleteI tried to send you my recipe for Luscious Lemon Squares, but comments would not allow that many characters. I will have to do a post on them as they are wonderful and have made me the popular person I am - at least with sugar freaks.
DeleteSo nice to meet you. I am looking forward to being a new friend a follower of your wonderful site.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your temptations of buying on the internet. Way to easy for us to do this and they are to blame. lol
I can relate I too have way too much and my kids also have politely said no to my offers of taking it off my hands.
Take care and I am glad I found you
Maggie
I used to be Grandma Red Hair, but in the past month, I have become Grandma Yellow Hair also. I kind of like it.
DeleteThanks for joining my journey.
I am proud to say that I have never bought anything from cyber world. I like to see, touch, and pay. Old fashioned? Yes!
ReplyDeleteNot old fashioned, Cro. I sometimes like to do the same if they are local shopkeepers. However, it is so easy to click a mouse and receive something in the mail two days later.
DeleteOh dear. Snap. A little while ago I bought far too many spring bulbs. I am still weeding, weeding, weeding to make room for them all. And today I got an email from one of the gardening companies telling me about their specials. And I am ashamed to admit that I bought more. Where they will fit is anyones guess. More daffodils, more tulips, freesias, nerines, sparaxus, alliums...
ReplyDeleteYes, I have done the same thing with bulbs - so many bulbs, so little space.
DeleteLOL!!! Sooooo funny! But like I always suspected....men are behind all the bad things we do! I'm sure all will be forgotten and forgiven when those new seeds are planted and your gardens are looking gorgeous this summer!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is the Mr's that get all us Ms' in trouble. Eve was not responsible for eating the apple, Mr. Devil made her do that also.
DeleteI live in a very small community, two ferries to civilization, so internet shopping is useful. The postage is what does me in.
ReplyDeleteThe Internet has saved me from entering toy stores for my grandchildren for years. I am eternally grateful for that.
DeleteI hope you have some wonderful flowers to show for it, though! I always feel glad I spent the money on Spring bulbs, and I'm a sucker for boxes of pansies.
ReplyDeleteJenny, you and me both. I just love those beautiful faces on those pansies.
DeleteYou will not be alone in your sin. When the flowers bloom, God will smile and so will you.
ReplyDeleteI am counting on that Susan.
DeleteBut you didn’t blame your computer!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, think of the pleasure you’ll have sewing and planting, watching and reaping.
That would be Mr. Dell.
DeleteI have already started the sewing and planting and it is all worth it.
I don't think planting flowers counts as an indiscretion. It'll be good exercise planting them and they'll look great in a month or so.
ReplyDeleteI do pretty well with not buying things, but I have boxes of old junk that I just can't make myself sort through and throw out. *sigh* Some day...
I was going to leave a comment but I've got to purchase another must have garden gnome online from "Better Gnomes and Gardens."
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lexa that you'll be getting plenty of exercise from all the planting. Just think of all the money you saved when you could have bought expensive gym equipment instead. I wish I had a green thumb.
ReplyDeleteJulie
It sounds like you will have a wonderful garden – I hope you show us pictures!
ReplyDeleteDear Arleen, I so understand. My Mr is Mr. Amazon from whom I keep buying books. They just keep stacking up in the house and soon the cats and I will have to move out so that the books can spread across the floor!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the comedian who used to say, "The devil made me do it"? I think it was Flip Wilson. I so enjoyed his television show. I wish we had true variety shows as we did in the 60s and 70s. I miss them--Carol Burnett and Flip Wilson and Laugh-In and Rowan and Martin and Sid Caesar. So much laughter. Peace.
I have an equal inablilty to resist anything at Lee Valley Tools. My Husby is the same, in fact it is the one store where we can both happily shop. Husby says he must go once a month to pay homage to Thor, the tool god. I go for the gardening. Sigh. It's a good life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog! Spring (whenever it gets here and decides to stay) makes me want to clean, sort, rearrange....and buy yet another bedspread, curtain, sheets for the new look. My closet runneth over! The Medicare Mom
ReplyDeleteThe easy of a click... May you be enjoying spring and those accumulated garden implements
ReplyDeleteI've gotten a little better with not acquiring, but there's still lots to declutter. I've been cleaning out my office and realized that I just saved and saved, and now I have fifteen year old files no one cares about anymore. My next project is my apartment.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a green thumb, only opposing ones which is why I can craft but can't grow anything or cook! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I always look forward to your comments. The Medicare Mom
