All I Needed Was A Flower Show

The snow is gone, and I am doing OK.

Last week was the end of winter in my part of the world,  at least that is what I have decided.   My hubby saw some tulip greens sticking out of the ever decreasing snow piles (which have now disappeared), so I am sure Mother Nature is lifting her frozen wand and trading it in for the greener model.  That is my hope and she better not cross me.

A few weeks ago, in order to get myself psyched, I put on my pretty pants, grabbed my daughter and granddaughter and off we went to the Philadelphia Flower Show.  This is the largest indoor flower show in the US and is usually attended by what seems to be half the country's population. We waited till the last day, hoping that the crowds would be less, and by mid-afternoon that seemed to be the case.  Instead of shuffling, we could actually take steps and get to the front of all the fabulous displays.  This year the theme was Disney movies (or similar) and they did a magnificent job, which is usually the case

We followed the masses through the entrance.

We passed by the  Little Green House

Found "Nemo" and Dorrie

Crashed  "Cinderella's" wedding

and spied her slipper

Marveled at the exotic sights from  "Mulan"

Stopped to check out some "Cars"

Saw that "Aladdin" was not  home

  And went "Into the Woods.

and saw spring

  1. Love that Little Green House! Looks a great place to hide away from the world. Our flower and gardening shows don't really get going until May, but it's always a joy to visit them for inspiration.

    1. So did I. I was not sure what movie it was supposed to be from, but the one that came to mind was "The Quiet Man". I am sure that was not it though as that was a movie from long ago and I don't think Disney had anything to do with that one. However, that scene made me think of John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

  2. I like the little green house too, it would make a nice rest home for gardeners. I'm not good with crowds, I think it was very brave of you to set out in search of Spring.

    1. It looks like a lovely place to rest, doesn't it.

I really don't mind crowds that much; I grew up in NY.

  3. It's a third for the little green house - I think that's really natural - I love walking around flower shows because there's always an idea (or a dream) that you can bring away with you - glad you had a good time xxx

    1. Just whiffs here also, but tomorrow it might be 70 degrees. It will be back to cold on the weekend though, Spring will come, Joanne. Mother Nature may have forgotten us for now, but she will come around eventually.

  6. Oh my. Oh my, oh my. Jealous thoughts. I do love a garden show, and ours are nothing like this elaborate. Thank you so much for taking us along.

    1. It is a beautiful event and every year a new theme. I really loved this year's choices. I wish I had pictures of the Frozen display, but my granddaughter took them and she forgot to send them to me.

    1. The Little House is a hit, Molly. It looks so cozy and most of us ladies would love to own something that looks like that.

  8. Still lots of snow here. I'm hoping as soon as it melts the flowers will be half way up!

  9. Can Spring be far behind? I hope it's nearer. Snow today in Colorado, but now clear skies and much of it melted. We still have April to go and perhaps more snow which is so hard on the Iris as they think Spring has come. Your photos are lovely.

  14. Dear Arleen, from you photographs, I'm thinking that the flower show would be a big draw for tourism in Philadelphia. So lovely and creative.

We have daffodils coming up and other early spring flowers, but the warmth of a few days ago--in the mid-70s--has vamoosed and we now are in the low 50s with a chill wind. I wore a winter coat today when I walked!!! Peace.

  15. The flower show brings in people from all over the country and along with them, their money. The day after it is over, planning is begun for the next year's exhibition. I have attended many of them and have enjoyed them all.

I wore just a sweater today, Dee, but this weekend we will be back to heavy coats. Winter has not quite given up.

  16. This kind of reminds me of Keukenhof in the Netherlands. Keukenhof is a huge flower show with plants and flowers I've never seen anywhere else.

Don't know if you've heard of it before, but you can read more about it here: http://www.keukenhof.nl/en/.

Spring has sprung here as well. I'm enjoying it, except for the allergies which have been particularly bad this year.

  17. Wow - I had no idea a flower show could have such great sets and lighting! I think you picked a great time to go, priming yourself for the (hopefully) imminent arrival of spring. I hope your poor little tulips come back to life. Thanks for sharing your news and the amazing pictures!

  18. I love flower shows. The people who design them are so imaginative and creative, and it's like entering a fantasy world, often smells so beautiful too. Flowers... they are gorgeous!
