Breaking News

Times are tough all over, but I am doing OK.

After a long hot summer with few clouds and less rain, moisture is coming our way.  It is a grey day, but I don't mind because my brown lawn is about to get a long needed shower.  The weather people are besides themselves talking about it and warning us of impending doom. They are not only pointing to areas that might be affected, they are swaying their arms all over the map to let us know, in Armageddon terms,  that dark days are coming.  This is not a hurricane, nor even a tropical storm, it is what used to be called before "BREAKING NEWS", just rain.  The hype they put us through every day is causing no small amount of anxiety among the population and this just adds to the deep depression and fear that many of us are experiencing over this election from hell.

The rain will come and the earth will be nourished.  The leaves will fall so the trees can sleep.  We will enjoy the color and take breathtaking pictures of nature. This election time will end - hopefully in the right way.  If it doesn't, somehow, we will endure and hope for the best. None of this is BREAKING NEWS,  it is life.

Just in case the doomsayers are right, though, be careful out there.

  1. Great header for this post. Though, we are in day three of five days of 1+ inches of rain, and it's going around in big circles that could be impending doom!
    Have a great autumn.

  2. Three inches of rain in three days is not bad. I hope we get as much as you did as our ground is very, very dry. The good thing also is it is cool, light sweater time. I can breathe again.

  3. To Elephant's Child: I inadvertently pressed 'publish' a few times and my post got printed three or four times. When I deleted the extras, your comment disappeared. I am so sorry. However, it appears in my comment section and in my e-mail and I thank you for taking the time to write.

    1. Arleen, I seem to recall seeing EC's comment on my 1st visit to your post and it dealt with South Australia --a state somewhat larger than Texas-- being deprived of electric power during a storm on Wednesday. Lightning struck a power plant and resulted in 2-days blackout (including streetlights) and an accusation by Federal Labor Leader that the P.M. was politicizing the weather. Considering their progress away from coal-burning generators in favor of renewable power technologies, I would say the charge is justified.

  4. Watching from next door I'm puzzled why the other two presidential candidates are not getting much if any media coverage. Are they not serious or credible? Our Green party only has one person in our parliament but she is well known and respected and gets a reasonable amount of coverage during each election. Enjoy the rain.

    1. The one who I wanted to like and is polling about 9% has been going on talk shows lately and is proving himself to be an idiot. This week he talked to a reporter with his tongue out. God help us all.

  5. "The rain will come and the earth will be nourished." I like that, sane and accurate. Unfortunately, competition for viewership ratings invites the media to exaggerate the weather. I'd be happy with a few raindrops in this valley.

    1. My daughter is looking out her windows at work in Aptos and seeing the smoke coming from the fire in the Santa Cruz mountains. When you got some rain earlier this year, I had hope that Mother Nature would be kind to CA this year, but it seems like September has been a very cruel month to many in your area. I pray that things will get better, Geo.

  6. It truly is a "stormy season" right now that has me worn out. Will me make it through the next 40 days? Only time will tell.

    1. Yes, these are "stormy" days, Kim. Who could ever had predicted that it could be this bad? Hold on, it is going to be a very bumpy ride.

  7. We were promised rain for tomorrow, but I've just checked the forecast and they've changed it to 'cloudy'.

    1. We have been warned about terrible storms coming our way in the past few months, but little rain has actually happened. They sometimes happen around us, but few drops have fallen on my house. We are now having a nice rain fall and it feels and sounds good.

  8. It has become a terrible two words, Breaking News. They seem to have a name for every serious news story, as if we need a title to separate disasters!

Hope your weather improves...we all need rain and we here in the Midwest are finally getting some.

    1. Breaking news should mean something sensational and very important, not about a car that broke down on a highway or some rain. However, it is all bunched together to drill fear into our minds and hearts and gives them high ratings and big revenues.

  9. Weather forecasting is just the same in the UK. Maybe not quite so dramatic as you have shown though!
And the success rate of forecasting accuracy is low; to me it's akin to witchcraft!
Furthermore 'Breaking News' sometimes seems to last two days for the same item of news!

    1. One of the most popular weather forecaster in my area is named Hurricane Swartz. He gets overly excited about bad weather and if things are good, he seems to enjoy telling people when that will end.

We are now having a lovely rain and I am hoping it lasts till early afternoon. Selfishly, I need a clear evening because I have outdoor plans.

  11. YES! That's what I keep telling myself about this election from hell, too. This, too, shall pass, and we WILL endure.

After such a long hot dry summer, any amount of rain is a blessing. It's been a short supply around here, too.

I LOVE your header picture. It is absolutely stunning.

  14. Your new header is awesome! Looks like it'd make a good book cover for a title called BREAKING NEWS: DOOM! lol I remember a time with Cronkite and Rather. I remember when news was truly non-partison. It's horrible how it's changed, now all about fear, hysterics, ratings, and money. Yes, this is definitely the election from hell. At least it's over in a 40 days... but then what will we have??!

  15. A very dramatic header and dramatic times. It's hard to believe what's going on in politics at the moment and all too easy to get very depressed.

  16. Oh thank you! I'm so sick of the hype and doomsday nonsense. Yesterday a school on LI was on
"lockout" because of some people dressed as clowns. The world is mad when some rain becomes a red alert event.

  18. While lots of rain is falling to east, nothing is happening here. I haven't seen any since April or early May. Well, maybe 10 drops fell one day and I rushed out and tilted my head to the sky. It's bad either way, too much or not enough. Great picture.

  19. It seems like it can be too much or too little at times. With what is happening in Florida right now, I can't complain. Those poor people are going through a terrible night and I hope the hurricane will move east and spare them the worst of it. Bless them all.

  20. Arleen, I've been avidly watching the news and weather and following the path of Hurricane Matthew. Oh my Goodness - those poor people in Haiti and now Matthew is battering Florida. Don't know exactly where you live - are you in it? My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone caught up. Keep safe xx

  21. I live in the mid-Atlantic states and Matthew will not hit us, for which I am very grateful. Some in my area, mainly shore points, have not fully recovered from the hurricane Sandy from four or five years ago. These hurricanes are dangerous and destructive and now is the key season for them. I have many friends who live in the path of Matthew and I am very worried about them. Thank you for your concern, Molly.

  22. Thank you for your concern and sweet comment on my blog regarding the hurricane. I responded to you there, but just in case you didn't make a return visit to that post, I figured I'd come here and thank you, too. :)

  31. Hi Arlene,
Thanks for stopping by my "infrequent" blog! I've set a goal to post at least once per month for the next year. I'm hoping I will be successful! They will be picture prompt posts, mostly from my childhood, but written with a bit of fiction when I can't quite remember exactly! Mostly true, though!
