The Livin’ is Finally Easy

It is a sum, sum, summertime, and I am doing OK.

Today is a day without clouds, wind, threat of damaging storms, tornadoes, hail, hurricanes, floods, power outages, falling trees, heat waves, and humidity.  I had almost forgotten what people do on a glorious day like this, but I intend to enjoy it all, even if I am just puttering around in my gardens. After all, that which is rare should be embraced and treasured.  You never know when another will come along.

I hope you are all having a beautiful day.

For Shady: Summertime, Summertime by the Jamies

It's time to head straight for them hills
It's time to live and have some thrills
Come along and have a ball
A regular free-for-all

  1. Hi, Arleen!

I am happy to see you posting today, dear friend! I want to start by letting you know that I admire your header picture and the humorous caption.

You must have had a long streak of nasty weather up there this spring and early summer. I'm delighted to know that you are taking advantage of today's fine weather and doing some gardening. Your "sum, sum, summertime" word play at the beginning of the post tells me you remember the song by The Jamies that was a hit in the summer of 1958 and again in the summer of 1962:

I hope today's rare lovely weather is only the beginning with lots more to come all summer long. Enjoy your week, dear friend Arleen!

    1. I am, Susan. They forecasters are already using some of those descriptive words, storms, winds, etc. for tomorrow. I shall hold my ears shut if I hear them say that again.

  7. How can it be that I remember so many of those perfect days from my childhood but we don't seem to have many of them anymore? Is it just that time has sped up, or is it that I am (horrors) not taking the time to enjoy them now? You have the right idea -- potter around the garden, then go for ice cream :)

    1. I think, Jenny, that we tend to remember mostly the good but that doesn’t discount that the weather is changing, and not for the better.

  11. Always lovely to hear from you. Sometimes I'm so desperate to connect with you I consider replying to you on Going Gently where you always have something sensible/supportive to say. A favourite summer song of mine is the Mungo Jerry version of the pushbike song. 1970 I think. Have a wonderful, peaceful, restorative summer.

Songs of the summer are fun and are ones that are remembered, especially those from our youth.

  12. Yesterday here was cloudy all day. The temperature didn't climb above 25 C, and we were able to do outdoor things all day. We could breathe again! So refreshing!

    1. That is coming our way. Hot, humid, and destructive storms is becoming a daily forecast. Hot and humid is normal summer weather, but constant destructive storms is a new phenomenon.

  16. Such a pleasant surprise to see that you've put up a new post! I check every now and then, and today, I finally hit the jackpot. The header and caption are terrific, and it seems that you're back in a good frame of mind. Your humor and kind heart are shining through more brightly than the sun is.

It's bloody hot here, but I guess that's to be expected. They don't call this place Hotlanta for nothing.

If you like ice cream, (duh!) have you tried the Blue Bunny loaded sundaes? They're so good, they're downright decadent.

Have a super 4th. I hope the weather cooperates for you. Me/ I'm probably gonna be singing about the "Sum-sum-summertime" for the rest of the day... :)

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Susan.

We are back to hot, hot, hot and damaging thunder/lightning storms, but we are getting used to it and hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Hey, it gives us something to do and now I am going to go out and buy some of those Blue Bunny loaded Sundays to get me through the worst.

  17. We are in the middle of a sizzling hot week in the south of England. There is the constant smell of barbecuing in the air. I love the light summer evenings sitting on the patio. You could hear a dog barking miles away.....

    1. I am sitting outside now that it is evening, and the air is much cooler. I love these summer nights, oh wait, I can hear that dog barking also.

Summer days can sometimes be challenging, but the nights (with a fan besides me) are wonderful. I often sit out here by myself till almost midnight. I want to enjoy it all.

  22. Dear Arleen, yes, this summer is making the most of what climate change is bringing to us. No longer do we know what the norm will be. Our temps here in western Missouri have been in the nineties with the humidity making the day feel like it's 103-105 degrees. (In the past, that has been the norm for August.) Breathing becomes hard. When I open the patio door, I feel as if a wall faces me--a wall of hot air! Hope you enjoyed your day of the weather being tranquil and that there will be many more days like that. Peace and a belated happy birthday!

    1. Yes, Dee, climate change is really being seen in all these storms we have been experiencing throughout the world. What the scientists have been warning us about appears to be coming true.
