Pushing the Lazy Button

Yawning quite a bit, but I am doing OK.

Tree down, decorations put away, Goodwill bags assembled, powder room painted and refrigerator cleaned out (a dark and dirty job).  Stick a fork in me, I am done.  Now it is "me" time.  However, my energy is spent and my body and mind want to go into hibernation mode.  "Me time" will  not be exciting as there is no energy that I want to expand, no thoughts I want to think, no deeds I want to do.  Nada, nothing, blank stares are all I have to offer.

Hibernate:  to pass the winter in a dormant or torpid state. "Hibernate" I understand and can enjoy,  but not quite sure what "torpid" means. It is not a word that I use in my everyday conversation.

So hubby comes home and says: "How are you Arleen?"  Answer: "Fine, but feeling a little torpid today."

Torpid: having lost motion or the power of exertion or feeling.  Benumbed.

Yep, that's me.

Do you think they might have a little pill for being torpid? Maybe if there was an anachronism for it, big pharms could market it.  How about OOS (out of steam).

How ya doin'

  2. Delores - Why didn't I think of that. Chocolate - the answer to everything.

  3. Arleen, I truly believe we are suppose to take time to recuperate during the winter months. I look forward to snow days when I am forced to stay in and hibernate. I do love the word torpid. I've been feeling a lot like that lately. Hugs.

  4. Arleen, you deserve hibernation after that superwoman series of feats. Take a day and hang like the kitty in the tree. Why can't anyone invent a self-cleaning refrigerator?

  5. My parents' beautiful thatched home in Sussex (UK) had a knocker on the door of the master bedroom. The previous owner used to hibernate, and the knocker was there for his maid to bring in his meals, post, tea, etc. Sensible chap.

  6. You make me laugh! Such a wonderful word, much better than
    depression.

  7. I wonder if you get torpid torpedo's? Torpid speedos? Yikes! I helped clean our fridge before xmas (for the first time in 2.5 years)... definitely need recovery time after that job! Enjoy some zoning out, Arleen. :)

  8. Dear Arleen,
Bears do it! So why can't you? I encourage you to let yourself feel torpid and hibernate from making decisions and acting on them. We all need a respite now and then from the busyness of our life. So go for it!

  9. Yeah, I'd been pretty torpid (love that word, by the way); but since I've been back at exercise class for the past week and a half, I'm gradually coming out of it.

  11. Torpid pill might be good. A bottle of milk leaked all over my fridge the other day and I had to have a blitze on it. I used to work for Environmental Health and I think they would have sent me to prison if they'd have done an inspection right then. But it sure gives you a buzz when the job's done. It's quite nice just opening the door and admiring it :0)

  12. Oh Arleen - Sorry you're feeling a little blue...but sounds like you got a lot of stuff done. I do think it is the time of year and it is okay to take a break. I just told Terry - the minute it turns cold...all I want to do is eat and sleep. I feel the same way as you. I woke up full of energy this morning, ready to get some things done and by Noon - took a two hour nap. :-( We will find our gumption though - I know it! For some reason, right now...we just need rest. Sending a hug!

  14. What's wrong with kicking back and giving yourself time to restore. Winter has a purpose.
