A Matter of Perception

Running around quite a bit, but doing OK.

I love the color blue, and yellow makes me feel good.  Hubby is more into browns and greys.  I try to look at the bright side of life and to always have hope, but for my husband, that is a dangerous thing.  "Never count on anything Arleen, he will say, because crap can and will happen.  Prepare yourself for the worst and then, if by a miracle, things turn out well, you will be happier."'  I can tell you that he is contented being this way, it is comfortable for him, and his perception of life and living with caution fulfills him.

My perception is that everyday you start out with a blank page and you write your own story- whatever the circumstances; that most people are good, but be wise with your judgement;  that the world is round and time comes around for us all;  that the innocence of children is beautiful, and that old souls can be remarkable.  I have learned that maybe not everything is possible, but that does not mean you shouldn't try, that chocolate is good for you and a glass of fine wine in the evening is delightful.

I still dream that I can fly.

  2. I fly, too--More like the songbirds, not the hawks. Dreams are awesome.

  4. I wake happy each morning, and am an eternal optimist. For me, the glass is always half full.

  5. Hello Arleen:
We are at one with you. Without being over foolish we do try, wherever and whenever possible, to be optimistic about life and, in general, we see the glass as half full rather than half empty!

  6. My partner tells me that a pessimist is never disappointed, they can only be pleasantly surprised.
I try and look for the magic and the beauty in the small things - at dawn and sunset, in the birds coming to the feeder, in new growth in the garden. Small things for small minds? I don't know but it works for me.

  8. That was beautiful, Arleen. I think I have a pessimistic outer shell with a gooey optimistic center. :)

  11. There is so much about this post to love! Blue and yellow are my favorite colors for many things. My bathroom is so cheerful, and it's blue and yellow. At the school where I teach, we wear our school colors on Friday to "show school pride" and guess what? They are blue and yellow (gold)! I am always looking for more shirts or blouses that have blue and yellow! I think that is such a optimistic combination!

Ironically, our "exit song" when we have school assemblies is to sing the "High Hopes" song you posted! We did change the words of one stanza to fit our school, but I loved the enthusiasm of the kids singing in this video!

  13. I've been like your husband all my life, but decided I should be more like you, too. I have always preferred yellow to grey, so that must mean something! :)
