'Tis the Season

Storms are surrounding us, weather people are talking about doom and gloom, but I am doing OK

I will soon be going on vacation with my family and am excited about all the fun we will be having. Plans have been made since April and everything fell into place very easily.

There were just a few more things to get, so off I went to Costco today, the mega store with everything mega sized. As I walked in, I noticed that against the wall there was Christmas ribbon stacked high.  As I moved across the aisles, I saw all the outside furniture had been replaced by toys for children.  Did I miss something?  Where did the rest of summer go, and for that matter did autumn happen without me noticing?   Have I been in a coma and woken up to a very warm winter?

So just in case you are listening to holiday carols right now and can't wait to get that shopping started, the fa-la-la thing has begun. Sales at Walmart will start at midnight, get there early.

Me, I'm going to the beach.  Hopefully, it will not snow.

  2. There's something quite weird about it now. Next they will be selling that stuff in June. And doesn't Halloween come first anyway?

Enjoy your vacation and no, it will not snow :)

  4. Hello Arleen:
Oh dear, the thought of Christmas preparations in August is really just too depressing for words. We really do dislike the commercialisation of Christmas and, for us, we are so pleased to be in Budapest where the true spirit of the season remains. For the present, that is!

We hope that you have a wonderful time with your family on holiday and wish you safe travelling!

  6. Oh good grief! I haven't been in a big box store for a while, but I suppose...yep...they have to get a jump on things. Pretty soon we'll ALL have just ONE season....Christmas....for the whole year! Which would be fine if it didn't involve MONEY and people lived the true meaning of the season. Geezzzz.

Anywho, I hope you all enjoy your much-awaited vacation. Have a great time! Snowy beach or no snowy beach.

  7. Have a brilliant holiday Arleen. Our summer is just starting, not intending to miss one minute of it. Hate it when they start shoving Christmas decorations in your face in August. Wishing you lots of sunshine and fun with your family.

  8. Arleen, As soon as school begins in the next week or so the Halloween decorations will be in all the yards. Christmas wreaths will follow before the last piece of candy is handed out. Not a lot drives me crazy.....this maybe the one thing. Time passes fast enough without our rushing it.

Oh do have a wonderful family vacation. I hope you will share loads of pictures. Bonnie

  9. I hope you have a splendiferous vacation. And remember: vacation calories don't count! As for Christmas, nope. Not interested in getting psyched up this early. I'd rather celebrate Labor Day first, thank you very much. Have fun!

  12. Wow. Hawking Christmas wares so early is a rather pessimistic sign for the economy, huh?
    Have a great vacation!
