Hugger Wugger

Feeling warm and cozy all over and doing OK.

I missed it.  January 21st was National Hugging Day.  Lordy, Lordy, what was on my mind that day not to observe something that important.

I do love to hug.  It is a wonderful feeling to give one and an even better one to receive.  I am not talking about a quick, hands on the shoulder, pat on the back; I am speaking of an all engrossing, "you are important to me" squeezeroo.  Umm, umm, good stuff.

We have a friend who, we all agree, is the best hugger around.  He smiles not only with his face, but with his whole body.   When he reaches his big arms out to hug you, you know you have been touched by the master.

Being a grandmother, I can tell you that the hugs you get from your grandchildren are the best you will ever have.  Little children do not know how to hold back, they are honest with their feelings and they love you with all their heart.  Of course, the fact that you give them cookies and candy and let them stay up later than their parents helps that love along.

I found this You Tube video showing a really big hug..   This is an Aww moment.

Now that definitely was a real hugger-wugger.
However, I am sure the man might have needed some Bengay the next day.
Have a good hug this weekend!

  2. Hugs are the Best! I've done "Free Hugs" twice and can tell you it's unforgettable. Nobody gets too many hugs in this world. Thanks for the reminder!

  4. Hello Arleen:
Yes, we are all for hugs too, although they are not very British we have to say. Living in Europe for more of our time, we have learned to greet people with kisses and hugs...it would tend to be handshakes all round in England!!

    1. I was raised in a very loving family, although they were not big on hugs. Was it the Irish in them?

  5. You can't put a hug into words, but you can say so much with a hug. That elephant really took a shine to that man in a big way :0)

  6. Grandkid hugs are the best, and then the bear bugs I get from my brothers when I see them, and the hugs from friends that say I am here for you. All these hugs are wonderful.

  8. I love elephants. I wonder if you can potty train them. ;) I haven't been around many huggers in my lifetime. But my daughter sure makes up for it. I hug her until she says, "Okay, that's enough hugging now, Mom." LOL.

    1. An elephant in your yard could cause some problems with the neighbors. You might not get many hugs from them.

  9. You're right; that video really did rate a great big AWWWW. I love hugging, too. Matter of fact, I have a button that says, "IYQ" on it. I used to wear it at all the hamfests, when I had to sit at a table in my "official role." When someone asked me what "IYQ" meant, I got to say, "IYQ2!" and give 'em a big hug. (A bunch of the guys came back multiple times, so I reckon they liked hugs, too!) I, um, wasn't the most "formal" section manager this state has ever had.

Also, for anyone who wants to see the real power of a hug, see if there's any Special Olympics activity in your area. Volunteer huggers are always needed there. (And you'll smile so much, it'll take a week to wipe if off your face.)

    1. I see so many people where I volunteer that could use a hug. I have to be professional so I give them a smile, someone to talk to and a cookie instead.

  10. Totally right spot on. Grandchildren hugs are amazing. We have the time to sit down, hug and love them without worrying about laundry, etc.
What a video! Good thing there was a fence, sorta!

  11. What was that blue thing the keeper was using to touch the elephant with? It looked to me like a small 'pig stick', that gives an electric shock. Not nice!

  12. Dear Arleen,
Like you, I appreciate hugs from family and friends. But I found this video somewhat poignant and a little disturbing. To see that adult elephant and the baby in such a small enclosure when they are used to open space. I feel this is an example of how we misuse animals when we take them out of their natural element. And I sort of sob inside for that small elephant who clearly craves the presence of others. If only he could be with an entire herd. All the "mommies" would be hugging him.

    Peace.

  13. Totally agree. Also Cro pointed out the stick that his handler was using. It could be some kind of prod that gives off an electric shock. I hope not!. The baby elephant might have been begging that man to please release him/her and the mother from a not so nice place. There might have been some dark undertones from what first looked so lovely.
